Mark and Michelle bought their new home for £1.3m in October last year and it was revealed in January that they would demolish the four bedroom farmhouse to create the sensationally lavish new house with 'classical design'.

It looks like something Skeletor might live in on an alien world: a dinosaur's skull spun with the cobwebs of a million crazed spiders. But London-based design firm Softkill believes that its 3D-printed dwelling — called ProtoHouse — will be hitting the prototype stage by midyear.

And while trees have never been used to develop anything on the scale of a skyscraper, the idea isn't all science fiction. Designers have already successfully grown trees into tables, chairs, lamps and bridges.

The Hill House Box is now complete. It's made of a steel frame structure with a roof and chainmail mesh walls. "The public are invited to bring along water pistols to test whether the 32.4 million chainmail rings are doing what they're supposed to," the trust said in an invitation issued on Thursday.

And, according to Retsin, it doesn't take long to build at all; the 8x4-metre, one-storey house takes maybe three weeks for the printing process, with assembly occurring in the space of a day. There's no adhesive, bolts or screws; the pieces simply click together, with its weight cantilevered off the side of a hill.

Xiangshu Kong, Xiaoyong Zhang, and Mingsong Sun of China took third place with their Hmong Skyscraper, which incorporates the traditional homes of the Hmong people as modular units that can be added to an interconnected grid.

'It's really quite realistic for the near future,' he added. 'Just imagine that scientists can invent a tree that will grow not five times faster than a paulownia, but 30 to 40 times faster! Then you can grow an entire building in 15 years.'

Moving forward: The Essex presenter was dressed in a grey jacket, black skinny jeans and a cap after finalising the deal at Madison Fox - removing his protective mask after walking out of the offices

An interior decorator is mainly preoccupied with interior finishes and existing surfaces- they deal with embellishment and enhancement. They typically work with surface decorations such as paint, wallpaper, fabrics, furnishings, lighting, carpets, and rug

We're not entirely certain it would be suited to the Australian environment. Yes, we have a lot of hills; but those nooks, crannies and hidey holes look like they'd be awfully inviting to some of our more poisonous native fauna.

The Hill House was completed in 1904, but time and the Scottish weather haven't been easy on the materials used in its construction. It's been soaking up water and slowly dissolving, a process that threatens the house's interior.

Unique: The focal point of the kitchen is a striking velvet padded booth and table, which is situated in the island along with a hob, while the rest of the room features oak and white cabinets and tiled flooring

If you're lucky enough to have originals in your home - a pretty set of 1930s French doors can fetch hundreds, if not thousands, on eBay - then celebrate them, says Hoppen. 'Simply make your architects interior eclectic to enhance them.'

The actress, 33, and presenter, 34, are now renovating their new £1.3million dream house and posted clips of the building work to their new home Instagram account on Wednesday after their old property was snapped up.

The National Trust for Scotland is feeling pretty confident about the extreme measures it's taken to protect an architectural masterwork designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The preservation group is inviting the public over to Helensburgh next week to aim water guns ("the bigger, the better!") at the Hill House.
