In an interview with The Esports Observer, Perruzzi was asked about his opinion on the current state of support champions in LoL, and he expressed his dismay at the position it has taken in the game. This leaves other lanes with really low pressure; since supports don’t need to be as aggressive as their counterparts, you can just build whatever you want in other lanes, which is great for your composition, but it kind of leaves your lane uninteresting. According to Riot Games’ Director of Esports, Nick Perruzzi, one of the new features that they have been testing the past couple of months is a champion that aims to fix one of the biggest issues players have encountered in past games, namely the lack of a support.

They have a problem because there is a disconnect between how a bot lane can carry a team and how the rest of the team can carry a team. You'll have more lane and teamfight power, and will be able to get an early lead.  
  
They’re strong solo, so they carry if they want to, and they’re strong in teamfights because they’re good at putting people under pressure with their CC, their movement speed, and their damage." Perruzzi went on to outline the issues that come with a lack of support champions, citing the following reasons: "Support champions make it very clear who is the strongest and weak link on a team; they make for a lot of snowballing, but not many snowball fights.  
  
They are just fixing all the minor bugs that have cropped up over the years.  
  
"I think it’s a very different playstyle from a mage or an AD carry." One of the issues Perruzzi sees with a lack of support champions in the game is the general stigma that surrounds them.  
  
The last 3 builds I was able to vote on didn't do it for me (maybe 1 of them but it was a weak one that didn't offer much to the gameplay).  
  
During game play champions gain experience and items to enhance their skills and abilities. They win a lot of lanes. This will help your carry come back when the enemies make changes to their item builds. I think when we have no support champions, we also tend to have no jungler champion.  
  
This is where a lot of teams have problems.  
  
If you know the enemies will do damage, you will have to play cautiously to prevent your carry dying in the early game. But bot lane always wins the game in a lot of ways. The patch is being developed in an effort to make this iteration the most balanced and diverse one to date.  
  
"I think [a support] could be fun, but I’ve never been a fan of ‘support champions’ or anything like that, because it’s not really a support," he added.  
  
It will be available in the Play Store soon. I think it’s a bit weird that every champion can carry because they’re good in teamfights and they’re strong in a duel. How players develop and play their champions can be the difference between a crushing defeat or a glorious victory!  
  
The new lol patch have been in full swing for the past year, and we are finally getting closer to the release of the newest iteration, dubbed LoL 11.13.  
  
So if they’re not the carry of the teamfight, then we start getting into more of a teamfight problem. You are going to have to change your game client over, but other than that, you don’t need to worry about any of these new updates. They are just adding some polish to the base game.  
  
"I’m not really a fan of all of them, but there’s definitely something to be said about having a champion that is so universally hated that every team has a go-to ban or something like that," Perruzzi said.  
  
Supports can really take care of the bottom lane and jungle lanes, since junglers don’t do a lot in other lanes, and the lack of these roles makes it very clear who has to carry. This is just a small update to the base client, and most of these fixes should be fixed in a short amount of time. They win a lot of fights that involve them.  
  
A lot of time they don’t need to be as aggressive or take risks like they do in other match-ups, so you can’t just go up against them in an actual lane and do a lot of crazy stuff; you’re just too reliant on support items to make any moves.  
  
That’s why a lot of the time we don’t see bot lane carry in a teamfight. This could all change in the future.  
The base game for League of Legends is still very solid and it would be a shame for Riot to break that away. Game players take on the role of a Summoner who conjures and controls champions to fight for them at the Institute of War.
